The World at Port Canaveral

These are pictures of The World. The ship stopped by Port Canaveral for an air show at Patrick AFB and a shuttle launch. The World is a condominium ship; each person owns their apartment and shares in the maintenance of the ship. You can rent an apartment on the ship just as you can in many condominiums.

Noreen and I have looked at the ship but it really isn’t a good cruise ship. There is very limited entertainment and shows. It is really like renting in an apartment building with a restaurant and spa except it has world class service and it moves around. Also, Noreen doesn’t vacation in anything that has a kitchen and washer/dryer.

I took the picture of the balcony so you can see the difference in size.  On a cruise ship a normal balcony room has a balcony a bit smaller than one set of the sliding doors you see on The World.  You can see the ship is very square as all the apartments have balconies and privacy.

Under 90 days to go

Under 90 days to go.  Noreen and I are getting busy with the details.  The main reason we selected this itinerary is the ability to visit Machu Picchu and Easter Island.  We booked the shore excursions for both just to be sure they are available.  Machu Picchu is a three day overland beginning in Manta, Ecuador and rejoining the ship in Lima, Peru.  It will be our first cruise adventure (on the land) with many more to follow.  Easter Island is bit easier with a four hour tour.  We think that will be plenty of time to see the Moai statues, ceremonial site of Tahai and some native lore.

I've linked up with another diver on the cruise.  He's done several world cruises with HA and been this route before.  I've bowed to his expertise and am letting him schedule our dive itinerary.  I think we'll do around 8 eight dives over the course of the trip.

We've got several of our planning documents.  We need six visa's during the curise.  HA gets four of them and we have to get India and Australia.

That is really all the news for our trip so far.

For some practice on using the blog I've posted some pictures of our cruise in early September.  We were on a seven day Royal Caribbean.  Usual swing through western Caribbean.  We had a great time.  I did two gravity cosasters and one zip line.  Nice SCUBA in Cozumel.

Post some comments so I see how this works and thanks for sharing with us.

The Adventure Begins

Hi and welcome to our trip log.  This is our first official post as we begin the adventure.  If you'd like to see our itinerary, location and dates, use this link,
http://www.hollandamerica.com/find-cruise-vacation/CruiseDetails.action?webItineraryIdForAudit=WW1110&durationCode=4&noOfFlexibleMonths=1&portCode=FLL&shipCodeSearch=AM&flexibleMonths=false&pageNumber=1&voyageCode=A110&destCode=WW&dateCode=1_2011

Or you can go to www.hollandamerica and search for the 2011 Grand World Voyage.

We made our first purchase for the trip, a digital camera.  I think we'll have some opportunities to use on this trip.  Noreen is making her to do list and that includes riding an elephant in either Vietnam or India and a camel in Dubai.  Those will be interesting pictures.

Thanks for joining with us and we'll "see" you on the web.
